Private Veteran Disability Benefits Questionnaires (DBQs) from your Own Treating Doctor
Updated 5/4/2026
Getting a private DBQ and nexus letter from your own specialist in Orlando, Central FL, might be a convenient route for many reasons.
After much thought I decided that, besides completing paperwork, I’d like to offer private medical care to veterans as part of my regular clinic work. I want to serve those who served through streamline services and go above and beyond.
After you become a patient of our practice, we will have the time to sit down, listen, and know you as a person. After taking the time to get to know you I will be confident to clearly document your findings. This is convenient because the DBQ forms state that they are meant to be completed by the veteran’s healthcare provider.

As part of my Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (Physiatry) and Neuromuscular Disorders practice, I see patients with neck, back and joint pain, stiffness, muscle spasms, weakness, numbness, tingling, difficulty walking, loss of balance and other conditions affecting the bones, tendons, ligaments, nerves, muscles, and spine. Some examples of these conditions include:
A physiatrist is an expert in pain and functional limitations, and the neuromuscular subspecialty adds a layer of competency for muscle and nerve conditions. We can gather useful information that can help determine the impact of your health issues on your function. This includes restrictions in movement or activities (such as standing or walking), frequency of flare ups, and limitations in job performance.
I may actually help with some of your symptoms. If there is something that we could manage, this doesn’t have to affect your case. This means that you are getting ongoing treatment for your problem! Through regular follow up, we could see the progression of your symptoms over time and may possibly get new findings down the road.
We may be able to pinpoint what is consistent with your service-connected disability and what is not. You may think that documenting “what is not” weakens your case, but it actually adds credibility. Documentation from the initial incident is valuable but having updated and current findings may solidify your case further. We could even identify secondary conditions that may occur as a result of the primary service-connected problem. I can also communicate with your primary care provider at your request.
In the past I thought that filing disability paperwork was not part of my work as a rehabilitator, but I have come to realize that sometimes documenting a disability is rehabilitative because the patient will be able to get more resources to continue their care and gain peace of mind. Besides, if there is a disability, that’s what is fair.
An objective, organized, and legitimate evaluation is crucial. And now more than ever because recently the VA has been evaluating DBQs for authenticity and fraud concerns. You can rest assured that this is not a DBQ mill and is not based on generic templates.
A private DBQ with your treating doctor can be more straightforward than using other services and you can go at your own pace. While I cannot guarantee approval of your benefits, you can rest assured that you will be listened to and thoroughly evaluated and managed.
